Oscar Winning Director Paul Haggis Arrested For Sexually Abusing A Woman

According to Italian media, Oscar-winning Canadian filmmaker and screenwriter Paul Haggis was detained today in Ostuni, Italy, on charges of sexually abusing a lady for two days.

Public television RAI cited a statement from the Brindisi Prosecutor’s Office reporting that Haggis, charged with charges of sexual violence and aggravated the physical injury, is in that town in the Apulia area to take part in the “Allora Fest” festival.

Investigators claim that despite the foreign woman’s “terrible” physical and mental state, the director allegedly compelled her to have sex for two days before abandoning her at the Papola Casale airport near Brindisi.

The woman received assistance from airport and customs police, who went with her to submit the report and afterward drove her to the Brindisi hospital, where the routine for sex assault victims was put into effect.

According to the order made by the prosecutor Antonio Negro and his assistant Livia Orlando, Haggis, 69, who wrote the Oscar-winning “Crash” script as well as the screenplays for “Million Dollar Baby” (2004) and “Casino Royal” (2006), is being kept as a precaution.

The prosecution claims that the investigation “would have compelled the young woman, who was known to him for a long time, to have sexual relations,” based on the evidence gathered.
